South Africa: Davies Prepares SA for Agoa Trade Suspension

The possible suspension of South Africa from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa) will hugely affect the agricultural sector first, Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies said on Monday.

"The first set of exclusions will be on agricultural products, but we have been told that it can be reversed if we reach an agreement," Davies told reporters in Pretoria.

The Conference was opened on 15 December by Kenya's President, Uhuru Kenyatta. During the opening session, the Conference was also addressed by the Chair of the Conference Amina Mohamed, Director-General Roberto Azevêdo and the Chair of the General Council, Fernando de Mateo.
 
The Vice-Chairs of the Conference are Mr Alexander Mora (Costa Rica), Mr Carlo Calenda (Italy) and Mr Gregory L. Domingo (Philippines). At the end of the opening session, the Conference Chair proposed the adoption of the agenda.
